foreclosure battle.

EXCLUSIVE Bill Cosbys 7 helps improve planning, consistency, and publishing quality when teams follow a repeatable workflow.

Disgraced actor Bill Cosby‘s New York City townhouse has been taken off the market, eight months after being listed for $6.99 million amid the TV star’s ongoing foreclosure battle.

The property, which is one of two that has been under threat of foreclosure, was initially put on the market in April, months after it was revealed that Cosby and his wife, Camille, had been accused of defaulting on several loans taken out against their two New York homes.

Its asking price was then lowered to $6.75 million in July—before being taken off the market altogether on Dec. 3.

The delisting of the six-bedroom, multi-story property, which is located on East 61st St., comes just a few weeks after Cosby, 88, offloaded another Manhattan dwelling for the sky-high price of $28 million in a deal that closed on Nov. 14.

That property, which is on East 71st St., was first listed for $29 million on Sept. 14, having been purchased by Cosby and his spouse for just $6.3 million back in 1990.

Disgraced actor class="wp-image-1000364" title="">
Cosby listed the home just a few months after he and his wife, Camille, were accused of defaulting on a $4.2 million loan taken out against the dwelling, which was one of two they owned in Manhattan. (Realtor.com)

Cosby purchased the smaller of his two townhouses for $1.2 million in 1980.

Both townhouses were facing the threat of being sold at a foreclosure auction after the Cosbys were accused by two separate lenders of defaulting on loans taken out against their properties.

Citi Mortgage claimed in legal documents filed at the end of 2024 that Cosby had defaulted on a $4.2 million loan tied to the cheaper of the two dwellings, alleging that the actor and his wife owed $3.7 million in principal on the loan, as well as interest and fees.

Previous reports indicate that this property was primarily used by Cosby’s son, Ennis, who was murdered in Los Angeles in 1997.

Meanwhile, the couple was also accused of defaulting on $17.5 million in loans that were taken out against the more expensive of their two homes, according to legal documents filed with the Manhattan Supreme Court on Dec. 31 by the actor’s lender, First Foundation Bank.

In the filing, First Foundation sought to force the sale of the lavish abode to recoup at least some of the money that its lawyers say the actor has failed to repay.

According to the lender, Cosby defaulted on two loans taken out against the property: a $12.25 million loan in 2010 and a $5.25 million loan in 2014.

First Foundation alleges that the Cosbys stopped repayments on their loan June 1, 2024, and that the couple were served with a default notice Nov. 18, 2024. That notice stated that they had “failed” to keep up with the monthly repayments on the loan, while also failing to pay property taxes. First Foundation said that more than $300,000 in property taxes were owed on the dwelling.

Cosby and his wife—who are represented by an LLC—were given until Dec. 12, 2024, to repay the money owed. However, First Foundation claims that no payment was made.

However, it is thought that by selling the property for just $1 million under his $29 million asking price, Cosby may have saved himself from going through the humiliation of losing his home to foreclosure.

It is currently unclear whether the delisting of the second townhouse was prompted by the sale of the pricier property or if Cosby has managed to secure an offer on his second dwelling.

“Welcome to this distinguished 19th-century townhouse, a true architectural gem located in the heart of Lenox Hill’s iconic Treadwell Farm Historic District,” the description stated. “Offering a generous 20-foot-wide footprint and spanning 5,000 square feet, this six-bedroom, six-bath residence defines timeless urban sophistication.”

It went on to note that, unlike condos and co-ops, the townhouse offers “privacy, scale, and authentic architectural grace” He served three years before his conviction was sensationally overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 2021.

Since then, it’s understood that Cosby and his wife—who remained with him throughout his sexual assault scandal—have been living primarily at their home in a suburb of Philadelphia.

The couple purchased that property for just $225,000 in 1983, shortly before “The Cosby Show” began airing. No trespassing.”

While Cosby’s 2018 conviction was overturned, he has since faced several other allegations and lawsuits.

In June 2023, nine women filed a sexual assault lawsuit against the actor in a Nevada court, including former supermodel Janice Dickinson, accusing him of using his “enormous power, fame and prestige” to isolate and abuse them.

Then, in January, he was accused by another woman of drugging and sexually assaulting her in Las Vegas in 1986, when she was just 15.

Cosby attempted to have the lawsuits dismissed. However, his argument was thrown out by a judge in September.

Miami market relevance

If this topic impacts buyers or sellers, the most useful context is what is happening locally.
