A couple of weeks ago, a Cape Cod cottage on an eroding bluff and perched just shy of collapsing into the Atlantic Ocean made headlines when it hit the market for just $239,000.<\/p>\n
While that residence is currently pending sale, an adjacent property has also just hit the market\u2014this one for the extraordinary asking price of just $199,000, a sum that has helped it splash to the top of the week’s most popular homes list.<\/p>\n
What’s the catch? Like its neighbor, this three-bedroom residence, though available for a low sum, is facing imminent risk of coastal erosion, sitting just a few feet from a crumbling bluff edge. <\/p>\n
That impending threat might explain why the seller’s ask for the property is almost half the price he paid just one year ago, when he snapped up the 1,422-square-foot residence for $395,000. <\/p>\n
At the time, the daring buyer, David Moot<\/strong>, said he knew purchasing a home located just 25 feet from the bluff was risky, but insisted that he wanted to take advantage of its proximity to the ocean, even if just for a short time. <\/p>\n
“Life\u2019s too short, and I just said to myself: ‘Let\u2019s just see what happens,'” he told Bloomberg. <\/p>\n
With the fast-rising sea levels, it looks like he is now trying to recoup a portion of his investment.<\/p>\n
Also grabbing attention this week are a Craftsman home with income-producing opportunity in New Orleans, a former church turned luxury residence in Michigan, and a historic Nantucket compound.<\/p>\n
