Texas Gov. Greg Abbott<\/strong> has threatened to impose “a 100% tariff” on New Yorkers who want to flee to the Lone Star State if Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani<\/strong> wins the mayoral election.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, Abbott said Monday: “After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC.”<\/p>\n

It’s unclear how Abbott would impose the tariff, as it falls within the federal government’s authority in the Constitution.<\/p>\n

Mamdani has said that he wants to make New York<\/a> City more affordable, and his plan includes raising taxes on the city’s millionaires. He has also proposed a sweeping housing reform policy, including freezing rents on some apartments.<\/p>\n

The mayoral candidate’s critics said it would cause millionaires to flee the city\u2014and it would be a blow to the Big Apple’s economy.<\/p>\n
