It was followed by Hurricane Gabrielle in mid-September, which reached Category 4 intensity before shifting out to sea. Both Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda reached Category 2 status in late September, before doing the same.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, landfall impact in the U.S has been minimal, with storm activity remaining largely over the open Atlantic, passing well offshore of major land areas<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hurricane Melissa is set to ride along the coast of the U.S., while having catastrophic impacts in the Caribbean, according to The Weather Channel.   <span class=\"image-credit\">(The Weather Channel)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-2025-hurricane-season-was-predicted-to-be-above-normal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_2025_hurricane_season_was_predicted_to_be_%E2%80%98above_normal\"><\/span>The 2025 hurricane season was predicted to be &#8216;above normal&#8217;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The NOAA reaffirmed in its updated outlook that the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season remains \u201cabove normal,\u201d maintaining a 50% chance of higher-than-typical activity, down slightly from May\u2019s 60% estimate. <\/p>\n<p>The forecast called for 13\u201318 named storms with winds of at least 39 mph, of which five to nine could strengthen into hurricanes, and two to five may reach major hurricane status with winds topping 111 mph. As of now, we&#8217;re well within their predictions. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we witnessed last year with significant inland flooding from hurricanes Helene and Debby, the impacts of hurricanes can reach far beyond coastal communities,\u201d said acting NOAA administrator<strong> Laura Grimm<\/strong> in a NOAA report&nbsp;earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>A hurricane risk analysis by Cotality estimated that 33.1 million residential properties\u2014valued at $11.7 trillion in reconstruction cost\u2014face moderate or greater risk of hurricane-force wind damage. Stockpiling water, nonperishable foods, and a go-bag of vital documents, cash, and medications ensures readiness when forecasts intensify.<\/p>\n<p>When storms approach, insurance companies often enact \u201cbinding restrictions,\u201d temporarily freezing new policies or coverage increases. This makes securing hurricane coverage in advance essential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn emergency savings buffer is vital to being ready to cover unexpected costs,\u201d advises <strong>Melanie Musson<\/strong>, insurance expert at Clearsurance.com.
